Our new working place has the worst light ever but after 19:00 the sun prepares himself to provide pictures that can turn everythimg better than it really is. Let's hope the stage lights does the same.

O nosso novo espaço de trabalho tem a pior iluminação de sempre mas a partir das 19:00 o sol prepara-se para providenciar fotografias que conseguem tornar tudo em algo melhor do que na realidade é. Espero que as luzes de palco façam o mesmo.

how to make an ear v.1 [F.U.N.I.L.]

I think the pictures explain for themselves. The last ones show how to apply them to the cranium and how the folding technic gives a cool look from the behind. This is the ugly distorted right father's ear, so it ended up not being the best example but it's pair was already made when I remembered to take pictures. I really need to make some cookies shaped like these and then put some strange jam on top... lol.

Julgo que as imagens explicam-se sozinhas. As últimas demonstram como aplicá-las ao crânio e como a técnica usada para criar as pregas criam também um efeito interessante na vista traseira. Esta é a feia e deformada orelha direita do pai, por isso acabou por não ser o melhor exemplo mas o par já estava feito quando me lembrei de tirar fotografias. Thenho mesmo de fazer umas bolachas com esta forma e depois colocar uma compota esquesita... hehehe.

basic tools for modelling

These are my two favourite tools for modelling after my hands. The one on the right is a regular wooden modelling tool and can be bought at any art's store even at shopping malls. Although the wood is harder to clean they can be sanded or cutted to achieve the desired shape. The plastic version usually comes with the moulding marks that ruin your clean modelled surfaces, and it tend to break on my hands.

The tool on the left is made out of metal, a fully threaded stainless steel rod. It's a hand made tool created by Machado of the Machado Handmade Shoe's. The threads give that extra grip. Just can't work without it.

Estas são as minhas duas ferramentas preferidas para modelar, depois da minhas mãos. A da direita é um teque de madeira vulgar que pode ser comprado em qualquer loja de material de artes até mesmo em mercados de grande superfície. Ainda que a madeira seja chata de se limpar, pode ser lixada e cortada para se obter a forma desejada. A versão plástica costuma vir com as marcas do molde, podendo assim estragar as superficies do que estamos a modelar, e tende a partir sob as minhas mãos.

A ferramente da esquerda é feita de metal, uma vara roscada de aço inoxidável. É uma ferramenta feita à mão por Machado do projecto Machado Handmade Shoe's. A rosca oferece uma textura confortável de agarrar. Não consigo trabalhar sem este teque.

DAS

You can find this dough almost at any store and I use it to mainly correct details after sculpting. There's a bunch of brands that sell similar doughs but I do prefer DAS. I've been using it for several years and once on a while I test others but soon return to it. It has enough fibres to give it strength, but no to much or to big that allows create a smooth finishing touch.

Pode encontrar esta pasta praticamente em qualquer loja e eu uso-a principalmente para corrigir detalhes após a escultura. Existem diversas marcas que vendem pastas similares mas prefiro a DAS. Tenho vindo a usá-la por vários anos e de vez em quando experimento outras mas rapidamente retorno à mesma. Possui fibras suficientes para dar-lhe resistência mas não muitas o que permite criar uma superficie lisa.

eyes

Just grab yourself a big box and fill it with different sized and coloured balls, marbles and other spheric objects. You'll never wast time again modelling a perfect pair of eyes or perfectly rounded surfaces.

Apenas pega numa caixa grande e enche-a com bolas de diferentes tamnhos e cores, berlindes e outros objectos esféricos. Nunca mais perderás tempo a modelar pares de olhos perfeiros ou superfíces redondas perfeitas.

cutting blades

I use this kind of blades for working on polystyrene. I prefer the small ones and in general I'll spend between two or three blades for sculpting a human sized head. Since this blades are so thin they bend and able you to easily make curved cuts. Like most all of the tools and materials we use, they're bought at retail shops because of the amounts used and their prices. One cutter like this costs around 0,45€ because it's body is mainly metal, but the plastic version rounds the 0,17€.

Eu uso este tipo de lâminas para trabalhar em poliestireno. Prefiro as pequenas e geralmente gasto entre duas a três lâminas para esculpir uma cabeça de tamanho humano. Porque estas lâminas são tão finas, elas podem dobrar e facilmente permitem realizar cortes curvos. Como grande parte das ferramentas e materiais que usamos, são compradas em lojas para retalhistas por causa das quantidades usadas e respectivos preços. Um x-acto como este custa cerca de 0,45€ porque o seu corpo é em grande parte de metal, mas a sua versão de plástico ronda os 0,17€.
